Summer Placement & Home Wear Galore!

Hi guys!

I know I am really terrible at keeping my blog! But I have been up to a lot recently :) In fact I've not long come back from my two week work placement at Welsh Mountain Zoo!

I had a great time there, but it made me realise just how much hard work it is being a keeper. Majority of the day is just manual labour, scrubbing, cleaning, scooping, lifting, carrying and walking up and down the welsh mountain! I thought I was relatively fit until I started there, now I'm investing in a gym membership. But interacting with the animals made up for it. I got so close to some amazing animals, brown bears, tiger, snow leopards, margay, meerkats and more. I was allowed to hand feed the margay which was the highlight of my whole placement!

I took a few quick pics on my phone so sorry for the poor quality :)

Now I'm back I've been spending most of my time looking and lamps and scatter cushion for my UNI HOUSE!! You may have guessed, but I'm very excited ;) I can't wait to be living in Chester!

My favourite purchase for my house is this beauty...

My Abigail Ahern lamp from debenhams! How gorgeous is this! I love the colours and the textures too. The hare is felty so it feels a little furry and the shade is velvet. It is a bit pricey (£85) but I had some vouchers and I just instantly fell in love with it. I was the talk of the store when I picked it up on Friday! It was the only one in, as the designer wasn't officially launched until this week.

I'm also a little bit addicted to eBay at the moment...

I picked these up at around £6 each! They are mini but very cute :) and as I've got a king size bed I'm going to just cover it in cushions :p

My latest cushion was this....

I saw it in BHS and I'm a sucker for all things owl! Again a bit pricey for a cushion (£20) but there's a bit going on on there. Lots of floral fabrics, buttons, and textured fabrics. I really like it :)

I can't wait to move in and put everything in its place :)

Anyone else moving into a uni house? Or had any interesting trips this summer?

Oh also still selling some clothes, accessories and other stuff on my eBay :) check it out

Summer so far....

Hi guys!

Hope your all enjoying summer!
I have had a fab few weeks so far!

I had my zoo week down south, then I went to see the lion king last week which was A-mazing, I totally recommend it to everyone. We had great seats in the stalls so all the huge costume animals walked right past us, and they are so detailed you wouldn't believe! And we went to TGIs first which is always great :)

Yesterday I had a falconry experience at S&D falconry. It only cost £20, which is a lot less than the normal price, because I used a wowcher voucher. It was a great few hours, I had a barn owl flew to me and got to hold a hugeeeee owl, which weighed a tonne! The people there were really nice too, I really enjoyed it.

Ooo I've also started doing pilaties, following blogilates (check it out), its really fun and a great way to tone up if you can't afford the gym.

So what have you guys been up to? Hope you having as much fun as me!

Zoo week down south!

Hi guys,

Just a quick one!
Last week I went to visit a uni friend who lives near London, and I had an amazing time! We spent the whole week visiting zoos! 6 in 4 days! That's got to be a record.
It was really great, we saw a few smaller places the first day and visited some of the more well known places too including London zoo.
I had a great time and I just wanted to share with you some pictures from the week :)

                                                         Paradise Wildlife Park

                                                          Shepreth Wildlife Park

                                                           Woburn Safari Park

                                                        ZSL Whipsnade Zoo

                                                            ZSL London Zoo

                                                             Colchester Zoo

I really liked Colchester zoo, they have a lot of mixed species exhibits and all there enclosures are very good. I liked Shepreth wildlife park too, it was much smaller but it had a nice atmosphere and all the staff were very friendly.
I wasn't that impressed with London zoo, it's very old in most areas and a lot of the enclosures need some serious work, however their new tiger territory exhibit is awesome!

Do you guys like visiting zoos? Which is your favourite?
Let me know in the comments :)

Hi guys!

As you may have read I've been fundraising to go volunteer in Africa! I am hopefully still going to be going, but due to funds I may have to put it on hold for a few years, but when I do go I may be able to stay longer :)
Anyway I'm selling a load of stuff on eBay so if you like cute and animals check it out :D
I'm selling Framed Animal Posters, of some photos that I have taken myself :)

I've got lots of Animal Themed Bracelets....
if you see any you like but want to switch things around such as different beads, coloured bracelets and such, drop me an email, amydavies93@hotmail.com or comment on my facebook group "Amy's Africa Fund", and I should be able to sort it out for you :)

All the money from these sales are going towards my volunteer work, which I will keep you posted on :)
I'm also hoping to make a few arts & crafts type gifts over the summer (when I'm free from Uni work) so expect to see more from me :P

BIAZA Love Your Zoo Week!!

Hi guys,

Today I helped out at Reaseheath College zoo doing some love heart themed enrichment as part of BIAZAs Love Your Zoo Week. The zoo has been open to the public all week, with a range of activities for the kids too.

Me and a friend built heart shaped boxes, and hearts with slots for food, for different animals around the centre.

All the animals really engaged with the enrichment and it was really enjoyable to watch. The public seemed to enjoy it too, a group of young lads stood watching while George the serval tired to figure out how to get the meat out of his box :)

George the serval, with his meaty surprise :)

The porcupine boys loved their heart treats too.

The capybara hijacked the heart box that was meant for the tapir, but they had a good munch on the cardboard. The lemurs were really intrigued by their swinging heart too.

All in all it was a really enjoyable day :) It was nice to give the animals something a little different.

My Bright Idea!! Fundraising for Africa!

Hi guys,
I know I have been neglecting my blog again :| I always feel so guilty when I come back.
Things have been pretty busy with uni work and Christmas and what not, BUT I'm back and I've had a brain wave!!

I am currently saving every scrap of money I can so that I can volunteer at a rehabilitation centre in Africa next year (I mentioned this in an old post). I've been selling all my old stuff on eBay to try and make a few pennies but as expected people just don't want my old stuff haha!

Soooo, I've decided to use the money I've made so far to make something that people might actually want to buy....jewelry. I made my friend a bracelet for Christmas (i use the term made very loosely) I picked out the charms and designed the bracelet. Here's a quick pic (she has changed the order of the charms, they were symmetrical)

I was a little bit jealous when I gave it here, I grew quiet attatched to it :P So I thought maybe selling something I like might be a bit more appealing to others.
I am currently in the process of frantically buying beads and charms to get a good selection so I can get started.
Here are a few beads that are on their way, just to give you an idea of what I'll be using....

I'm aiming to sell these at around £5-£7 I haven't worked it all out yet. Each bracelet will have about 5-7 charms on it, I've scribbled down some ideas for themes and such based on the beads I've seen....

These won't be up on my eBay page until at least late February but I just thought I'd share my idea with you guys :) I am selling some old books and stuff if anyone wants to have a nose my eBay name is 11amyjane93
I'll keep you posted when my beads have arrived, when I design my first bracelet and so on :)

What do you think?
